Urgent Call for the Release of Nabaddoon Xaadoole – Protecting Citizen Rights in Somalia
We strongly condemn the arrest and mistreatment of Nabaddoon Xuseen Maxamed Maxamuud (Xaadoole), a respected elder from the Banaadir region.
Nabaddoon Xaadoole courageously stood up to defend vulnerable and displaced people in Mogadishu. His detention appears aimed at silencing public voices and the efforts of community leaders who oppose the misuse of public resources. Such actions show a dangerous use of security forces for personal or political interests.
We call on the Somali President to immediately release Nabaddoon Xaadoole and ensure that citizen complaints and peaceful advocacy are never met with intimidation or detention. These actions threaten governance, public trust, and may provoke unrest, destabilizing the nation.
As stated in Articles 15, 18, and 20 of the Provisional Constitution, every individual has the right to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, protest, and collective petition. Suppressing citizens or targeting community leaders is unacceptable and violates these fundamental rights.
The protection of elders and civic leaders is crucial for Somalia’s stability and development. We stand with Nabaddoon Xaadoole and all advocates defending the rights of the people.
