Aisha’s story: From forced marriage to hope

In Somalia, poverty, conflict, and displacement drive many families to marry off young daughters. Early and forced marriage has devastating consequences: physical harm, early pregnancies, psychological trauma, and lost education.

Somalia has committed to ending child marriage through international and regional treaties like the UNCRC, the ACRWC, and the Maputo Protocol, yet many girls remain at risk.

Organizations like NRC provide survivors with protection, psychosocial support, cash assistance, and safe referrals. For girls like Aisha, these interventions turn despair into hope.

“Early marriage is not a solution, it is a tragedy,” Aisha says. Protection, care, and community support give survivors a chance to reclaim their childhoods and futures.
