Somalia and Malaysia Strengthen Bilateral Media Cooperation in Kuala Lumpur





Kuala Lumpur, 27 November 2025 – The Director General of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Hayir Du’ale, together with his delegation, held an official meeting today with the Director General of Malaysia’s National Media, Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman, along with other senior officials.

The meeting, held at the headquarters of Malaysia’s media complex (Menara Angkasapuri), included key representatives such as Za’aba Hj Abu Bakar, Deputy Secretary for Strategy and Corporate Communication (KS), officials from the Departments of Policy and International Affairs, representatives from FINAS (National Film Development Corporation), PERNAMA, and all senior directors of RTM.

During the session, Director General Abdullahi Hayir provided a detailed briefing on Somalia’s national media institutions, including SNTV, Radio Mogadishu, the National News Agency (SONNA), Wargeyska Dalka, and the Somali Film Agency. He highlighted the central role these institutions play in informing the public, supporting state-building, promoting good governance, strengthening elections, countering terrorism, and combating disinformation.

He emphasized the importance of media in shaping national awareness and enhancing democratic participation, noting that Somalia is committed to modernizing its media landscape, fostering professional capacity, and expanding digital communication strategies.

For his part, the Director General of Malaysian Media expressed Malaysia’s readiness to enhance bilateral cooperation in media development, share experiences, and support training programs for media professionals from both nations. He acknowledged the strong potential for collaboration across journalism, broadcasting, film production, and digital innovation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Director General Abdullahi Hayir Du’ale signed the official guest book of the Malaysian media authority. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Malaysia, particularly in the fields of media development, public broadcasting, and digital strategy.
