Somalia Launches Phase II of the Joint Police Programme to Strengthen National Security
The Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), today inaugurated a key meeting of the Programme Steering Committee (PSC), focusing on the development of Phase II of the Joint Police Programme (JPP II).
Co-chaired by the Minister alongside international partners, the meeting aimed to review and approve the 2026 Work Plan and Budget, accelerating the implementation of the programme and enhancing Somalia’s policing capacity.
The session brought together Federal and State Security Ministers, the Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Police Force, senior police officials, and representatives from UNDP, UNTMIS, UN Women, IOM, AUSSOM, the European Union (EU), and the United Kingdom.
Discussions focused on the progress of JPP II, coordination between federal and state levels, lessons learned from previous phases, and measures to expedite the delivery of community security services.
By the end of the meeting, the JPP II 2026 Annual Plan and Budget were formally approved, marking a significant step in building a capable, accountable, and community-focused Somali Police Force.
Minister Fartaag expressed gratitude to international donors and partners for their ongoing support, emphasizing that JPP II plays a pivotal role in strengthening a professional, transparent, and effective police service to enhance national stability and public safety.
