Somalia Suspends UAE Military Operations Amid Rising Tensions
Reliable sources have confirmed that the Federal Government of Somalia has begun suspending several military and logistical operations conducted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) inside Somalia, following strong dissatisfaction with Abu Dhabi’s recent actions.
According to informed sources, the Somali government was angered by the UAE’s role in secretly facilitating the movement of Aydarous Al-Zubaidi, a Yemeni separatist leader, through Somali territory. This act was viewed as a serious violation of Somalia’s sovereignty and national security protocols.
As a result, the Federal Government has withdrawn flight permissions for UAE military aircraft and ordered the suspension of Emirati military activities across Somalia. The ban specifically includes aircraft such as C-17, C-130, New Way Cargo, Batot, and Fanjet, which had frequently operated in Mogadishu and Bosaso.
Sources further report that since the enforcement of these restrictions, the UAE has begun withdrawing its troops and military equipment from Somalia, particularly from Mogadishu and Bosaso. Some of these assets are reportedly being relocated to other countries, including Libya.
Additionally, there are reports that certain aircraft violated the government’s flight ban, prompting the Federal Government to initiate investigations and pursue accountability measures against those involved.
This move signals a firm stance by the Somali government against what it describes as long-standing interference and repeated violations by the UAE in Somalia’s internal affairs.
Many observers believe the UAE was also involved in the failed Ethiopia–Somaliland Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and has been working with external actors, including Israel, to undermine Somalia’s unity. The UAE has long been accused of bypassing the Federal Government by maintaining direct relations with Federal Member States and using financial influence to fuel internal divisions.
The Federal Government’s latest actions underscore its commitment to defending Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity
